The Ministry of Blue Economy and Marine Conservation (MBEMC), in collaboration with the National Adaptation Plan (NAP) Global Network, hosted a two-day capacity-building workshop to advance the implementation of Belize’s NAP for the Coastal Zone and Fisheries Sector. The training, held on August 19–20, 2025, brought together key governmental agencies engaged in marine and coastal adaptation planning.
The workshop aimed at strengthening the capacity of institutions responsible for adaptation planning by providing a foundational understanding of national adaptation processes, climate change frameworks, and core adaptation concepts. Participants also gained hands-on experience with the NAP Global Network’s Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) Toolkit, a practical resource designed to improve the tracking of progress, learning, and accountability in adaptation initiatives.
Training objectives focused on:
- Enhancing participants’ understanding of key adaptation concepts relevant to the coastal and fisheries sectors.
- Introducing and applying the NAP Global Network MEL Toolkit to support monitoring, evaluation, and learning for Belize’s NAP in the Coastal Zone and Fisheries Sector.
This workshop was facilitated by consulting group Advisors Next Door, whose expertise will strengthen Belize’s capacity for effective climate adaptation in the coastal and fisheries sector.
