By Zoila Palma: The Ministry of Blue Economy and Marine Conservation has deployed sargassum skimmers in the waters off San Pedro, Ambergris Caye.
The skimmers are designed to efficiently collect and remove large amounts of sargassum before it reaches the shoreline, helping to maintain the health of our marine ecosystems while also preserving the natural beauty of our beaches.
“The deployment of these skimmers marks a critical milestone in our Blue Economy strategy, which focuses on sustainable marine resource management and building climate resiliency,” the Ministry noted.
The Ministry says that it remains dedicated to supporting similar efforts across the country as they continue working towards a healthier Blue Space.
The Ministry thanks the team at Hol Chan Marine Reserve (HCMR) for this vital investment in protecting marine environment and supporting the livelihoods of those who depend on our coastal areas.
