By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Enterprise (MAFSE) is proudly represented at the Caribbean Week of Agriculture (CWA) 2025 by Extension Officer Abimael Puck, who is serving as Belize’s CARICOM Youth in Agriculture delegate. Held in Basseterre and Nevis, St. Kitts, this year’s CWA centers on the theme:
“Sowing Change, Harvesting Resilience: Transforming Our Caribbean Food Systems for 2025 and Beyond.”
MAFSE said Puck joins youth leaders from across the region in the CWA Youth Forum, a high-level panel discussion focused on transforming Caribbean food systems through innovation, climate-smart agriculture, and youth engagement.
- Policy Dialogue: Young participants are contributing to regional strategies aimed at reducing food imports by 25% by the end of 2025.
- Innovation Exchange: The forum encourages sharing of ideas and technologies to boost sustainable agriculture.
- Leadership Development: Youth are actively shaping the future of Caribbean agriculture through direct involvement in decision-making processes.

The YAB continues to advise the Special Ministerial Taskforce on Food Production and Food Security, ensuring youth perspectives are reflected in regional policy. Their work addresses key challenges such as the aging farmer population and the need for intergenerational knowledge transfer.
Through MAFSE, Belize reinforces its commitment to regional collaboration and youth empowerment. Abimael Puck’s participation exemplifies the country’s investment in cultivating young agricultural leaders who can drive innovation, resilience, and food sovereignty.
CWA 2025 marks a pivotal moment for Caribbean agriculture, with youth voices leading the charge toward a more sustainable and self-reliant future.
