Ministry of Agriculture, STEM-U Foundation, farmers and schools explore innovative partnerships in agricultural science

By Zoila Palma:  On March 24-25, 2025, key stakeholders from Belize High School of Agriculture (BHSA), Bishop Martin High School, Escuela Secundaria Tecnica Mexico (ESTM), local farmers and primary school along with the Ministry of Agriculture Team, Orange Walk and Corozal Extension Officers and the STEM-U Foundation gathered to explore innovative partnerships in agricultural science.

The event featured insightful presentations from experts like Dr. Ying-Tsu Loh and Dr. Roger Thilmony, whose work in plant biotechnology and agricultural science.

The objective of the collaboration is to understand and enhance schools’ curriculum and research.

The Ministry noted that the focus is improving agricultural education and expanding STEM pathways, the meeting laid the foundation for future collaborations that will benefit students, farmers, and educators alike.

The discussions centered around the STEM-U Foundation’s mission to empower educators and students with hands-on biotechnology education, fostering real-world applications and industry-relevant skills.

With the support of leaders from both academia and agriculture, this collaboration promises to drive the growth of agricultural science programs, helping students gain a deeper understanding of emerging technologies and career opportunities.
