By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Today, the Ministry of Agriculture and Minister Jose Abelardo Mai met with Juan Moreno Belmar, President of PROCASUR Corporation, to discuss initiatives promoting rural development across Latin America, Africa, Asia, and the Caribbean.
“He has overseen various initiatives to promote rural economic and social development in Latin America, Africa, Asia and the Caribbean.
Anxiously awaiting for the end of this year where persons from Nations around the planet will convene in Belize to share their agriculture and rural development experience,” Minister Mai said.
The meeting anticipates an upcoming global gathering in Belize focused on agriculture and rural development.
A key initiative, the Farmers’ Organizations for Africa, Caribbean and Pacific (FO4ACP), aims to enhance the livelihoods of smallholders in ACP countries with support from the European Union (EU) and the International Fund for Agricultural Development.
The project involves collaboration with 16 local farmer organizations, focusing on business management, productivity, and sustainable agriculture practices.
Currently, a workshop on unmanned aerial systems (drones) is taking place, featuring international experts.
Participants, including farmers and agricultural officials, will learn about drone technology, crop monitoring, and data analysis.
The workshop aims to equip attendees with practical skills and may lead to international drone certification for selected participants.
Theoretical training is being held at ProSolar Engineering Compound in Belmopan, with practical sessions in Bomba Village.
