By Zoila Palma: On May 22, 2026, the Agriculture Department Corozal District in collaboration with the National Meteorological Service Belize conducted a one-day training workshop in Sarteneja Village, Corozal District.
The purpose is to assist farmers in making informed decisions, improve productivity, and build sustainable farms.
A total of 20 farmers from Sarteneja participated in the one-day session during which farmers were engaged in group discussions using a participatory tool approach making climate smart decisions by combining historical data and seasonal forecasts to conduct farming activities and manage risks.
In addition, 2 group activities were completed under Resource Allocation Mapping Systems, enabling farmers to map farm assets to analyze the impacts of weather shocks on their operations.
The training also included Climate Data & Forecasts focusing on analysing historical, local, and long-term climate data to make informed planting decisions.
