By Zoila Palma:  The Ministry of Agriculture Food Security and New Growth Industries received a donation of equipment from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, funded by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), aimed at strengthening agricultural statistical systems and enhancing data collection, analysis, and reporting.

The donated equipment includes 6 motorcycles, 2 high-capacity desktop workstations, and one high-capacity field laptop computer. The motorcycles will enhance data collectors’ mobility, enabling them to reach farming communities more efficiently, including those in remote and rural areas.

The computers will significantly improve the Ministry’s capacity to conduct advanced data analysis of the field data.

Together, the equipment package will strengthen the analytical and reporting capacity of the Ministry’s Policy and Planning Unit, supporting efficient data collection, improved data processing, analysis, visualization, and evidence-based decision-making.

The Ministry says that this donation supports its capacity to meet the national and international reporting obligations, particularly in relation to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Strengthened agricultural data systems are essential for monitoring progress on food security, sustainable agriculture, rural development, and related development indicators.

The Ministry expressed gratitude to FAO and KOICA for this timely and strategic contribution, noting that the donation reflects a strong commitment to institutional strengthening, capacity development, and long-term development impact. The Ministry further emphasized that the equipment will be used responsibly and strategically to improve data quality, strengthen policy formulation, and enhance service delivery to farmers and stakeholders across the agriculture sector.

The partnership between FAO and the Ministry continues to play a critical role in advancing data-driven development and strengthening national systems in support of sustainable agriculture and food security.
