By Zoila Palma: The Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and New Growth Industries (MAFSNGI) has issued a statement calling out “political activists on the “Fus Ting Da Mawvnin” radio show and on social media by a political organ named “What’s Up In Santa Elena”.”
The Ministry says that the statements made were “untrue” and “irresponsible”.
The statements claim, without any form of proof whatsoever, that “cattle from Central Farm are allegedly being removed during nighttime hours”.
“The Ministry would like to categorically and emphatically deny such rumours. The Ministry of Agriculture Food Security and New Growth Industries maintains a constantly updated cattle inventory; currently, at the Central Farm livestock Unit, there is a total of 262 head of cattle with includes bulls, cows, heifers and calves. All cattle at Central Farm are properly accounted for and have not been moved to any other location,” the Ministry explained.
In addition, the Ministry asserted that the Central Farm Livestock Unit remains vigilant and careful to record any movement of the animals entrusted to their care, and have all animals tagged and branded properly, allowing for precise tracking and accountability; the Livestock facilities housing cattle, horses, sheep and goats are public facilities that may be visited once proper permission is obtained.
Furthermore, the Ministry warned that “engaging in malicious innuendo and rumour mongering may be seen as engaging in actions that might warrant legal repercussions as the integrity of a government institution could be at risk.”
