Ministry of Agriculture calls for Immediate resolution of power crisis

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Minister of Agriculture, Food Security and Enterprise Jose Abelardo Mai says that a resolution must be sought immediately for the power crisis affecting the country.

Minister Mai said that the farmers are now commencing to lose the soursop due to the prolonged outages.

“It’s horrible. It is disgraceful. I should say. Because in 2024, we are having this crisis BMVC that buys pulp from the farmers the soursap. We are we are starting to lose product. This is unacceptable. We have to find a solution to this. We have to we cannot depend on somebody to feel sorry for us and sell us electricity,” Mai said.

“That is not going to happen. Cabinet is very, very concerned about it. I believe and I won’t comment what it is that we could have avoided this problem if would have taken the right decisions in time. My view is that renewable energy sources is the way to go. I mean, there are thousands of people investing in solar systems. If we would have gone into solar systems ten years ago, this would not have been a problem,” Mai added.

Mai implied that previous Governments and Leaders failed to address this situation that is now plaguing Belize.
