By Zoila Palma: On April 29, 2026, Minister of Economic Transformation Dr. Osmond Martinez, CEO Carlos Pol joined Minister of Agriculture Rodwell Ferguson and Minister of State Alex Balona to a tour of Santander Sugar Group located in the Cayo District.
The delegation was joined by Mustapha Zulfikar, Minister of Agriculture of the Co‑Operative Republic of Guyana, along with other government officials from The Bahamas.
The purpose of the visit was to meet with Santander’s management and tour the facility, including the construction site of the Caribbean Sugar Refinery, to gain firsthand insight into Belize’s production and processing capacity.
Discussions included expanding market access within CARICOM and positioning Belize to increase its sugar exports while enhancing value-added production.
“This engagement reflects the Government of Belize’s continued commitment to strengthening regional partnerships, boosting exports, and creating new economic opportunities for the country’s agricultural sector,” the Ministry of Economic Transformation said.
