Minister of Foreign Affairs says U.S. visitor visas not affected by new visa processing pause

By Zoila Palma:  Following Fox news reports that the U.S. may suspend visa processing for 75 countries including Belize, Minister of Foreign Affairs Francis Fonseca told 7News that at this time, there is no official confirmation, but he did speak to the U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Katherine Beamer.

“I have engaged with the US Embassy and spoken directly to the Charge. They have no official information on this matter.  Their unofficial understanding is that this freeze will apply to applicants for Citizenship or Permanent Residence ( Green Cards) and not to any other category of US visas.  In the case of Belize this amounts to about 200 or so applications per year.  Again I reiterate that this is all unofficial at this point,” Fonseca said.

Minister Fonseca says that the Ministry remains engaged with the US Embassy to ensure we understand what the US State Department has issued and how it will impact Belize.
