By Zoila Palma: Minister of Foreign Affairs Francis Fonseca is commending Belize’s security forces for their professionalism during acts of intimidation by the Guatemalan Armed Forces in the Sarstoon today.
“Belize will always stand up to Guatemalan aggression with courage, dignity and professionalism.
We are committed to peace but the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our nation will not be compromised.
Belize is proud of our Security Forces on the frontline of our national defense,” Fonseca said.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that today, a Belize Defence Force (BDF) patrol conducting a routine patrol around Sarstoon Island was aggressively approached by two Guatemalan Armed Forces (GAF) vessels that had crossed into Belizean waters, in an evident attempt at intimidation.
Belize says that it will lodge a formal protest with the Government of Guatemala and report this incident to the OAS.
