By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On May 6, 2024, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Francis Fonseca met with Carlos Ramiro Martinez, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Guatemala.
During their meeting, the officials reached a mutual agreement to foster cordial neighbourly relations and maintain an open dialogue to effectively address challenges along the shared border.
Additionally, Minister Fonseca and Minister Martinez engaged in discussions encompassing various contemporary matters of mutual interest, including collaboration in security, expansion of trade opportunities, the Central American Integration System (SICA), and the revitalisation of the Joint Commission as a mechanism to implement the thirteen ‘Placencia Agreements’ signed in December 2014.
