By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On May 6, 2024, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Francis Fonseca convened with Eric Jacobstein, Deputy Assistant US Secretary of State, in Guatemala City.
Both parties acknowledged the significance of their robust partnership and engaged in discussions encompassing various topics of mutual interest, including migration, trade, and the situation in Haiti.
Minister Fonseca, accompanied by his delegation, also held productive deliberations with Acting US Deputy Secretary Kristie Canegallo, primarily focusing on irregular migration patterns and pertinent security matters.
Additionally, Minister Fonseca provided an update to Canegallo regarding the Guatemalan claim before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and other issues of national significance.
