By Zoila Palma: Minister of Agriculture, Food Security and New Growth Industries Rodwell Ferguson, accompanied by Minister of State in the Ministry of Agriculture Alex Balona commenced their tour of the Corozal District this week.
The ministerial tour is part of their countrywide familiarization with productive areas and producers all over the country.
Area Representative of Corozal Southwest Ramiro Ramirez also accompanied the Ministers of Agriculture on the first day of the tour.
Minister Ferguson has visited the Sugar Industry Research and Development Institute (SIRDI) where he participated in a discussion on the issues affecting the sugar industry and challenges faced by SIRDI.
During that session, Minister Ferguson met with Sugar Industry Control Board Chairman Marcos Osorio and Leticia Westby, Acting Director of SIRDI, as well as with senior officials of the Ministry of Agriculture.
Ministers Ferguson and Balona then visited a smallholder livestock holding in Louisville, followed by a visit to the Quality Shrimp Belize Limited in Estrella Village.
They also toured the Concepcion Vegetable Farmers’ Co-operative in Concepcion Village Corozal.
The tour continues today with visits to Chunox and Sarteneja.
