By Zoila Palma: Today, Minister of Agriculture, Food Security and New Growth Industries Rodwell Ferguson and Minister of State in the Ministry of Agriculture Luis Alex Balona met with the Board of the Pesticides Control Board (PCB) as they continue familiarization visits within the Ministry, departments and statutory bodies under the Ministry.
The Pesticides Control Board in Belize is a statutory body whose function is to regulate the importation and exportation, manufacture, distribution and use of pest control products in the country.
The key responsibilities of the Pesticides Control Board include registration of pesticides, licensing of pesticides imports and manufacture, authorization for the sale and use of Restricted Use Pesticides (RUPs), classification of pesticides, registration of premises for selling restricted pesticides, training and certification of pesticide users, public awareness and education, monitoring pesticide formulation, handling, distribution, and sale, and inspection and enforcement of pesticide regulations.
The Board is composed of 14 members who meet regularly to ensure compliance with the Pesticides Control Act.
