By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Minister of Agriculture, Food Security, and Enterprise, Jose Abelardo Mai, along with CEO Servulo Baeza and Adviser Hugh O’Brien, on Tuesday visited Hondu Palma, a factory specializing in harvesting African palm (Elaeis Guineensis) for its oil. Hondu Palma is located in El Negrito in the Department of Yoro in Honduras.
“The African palm oil industry is taking off and is one of the new industry frontiers Minister Mai is keenly interested in,” the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security, and Enterprise (MAFSE) said in a statement posted on social media on Tuesday.
Recognizing the burgeoning African palm oil industry as a new frontier of interest, Minister Mai took the opportunity to gain insights into the potential growth and economic benefits of this sector. The factory, known for its efficient harvesting and processing techniques, provided valuable information that could influence future agricultural strategies in Belize.
Minister Mai and his team are in Honduras to attend a crucial meeting on the New World Screwworm, a pest that poses a severe threat to Belize’s livestock industry. They will also travel to Panama later to further their efforts to contain the New World Screwworm.
