By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On September 2, 2024, Minister of Agriculture, Food Security, and Enterprise Jose Abelardo Mai was honored by the Blue Creek Cattle Producers Association.
Minister Mai was given a tour of several farms to see firsthand results of improved stock in Nelore, Brangus and Brahman breeds of cattle.
Discussions with producers included issues affecting the cattle industry, especially the impending threat of the screw worm, and other challenges facing livestock farmers.
Minister Mai was also given an award of recognition for all the work done in supporting the cattle export trade and livestock industry.
The livestock producers at Blue Creek expressed their appreciation for the Minister’s unwavering support and his commitment to agriculture in general.
Minister Mai expressed his thanks for the award and promised to continue fighting for the agriculture sector and livestock to keep on growing.
Also present were CEO in the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Enterprise Servulo Baeza, CEO of the Belize Livestock Producers Association William Usher, officials of the Ministry of Agriculture, and residents of Blue Creek.
