By Zoila Palma: Today, Minister of Agriculture, Food Security and New Growth Industries Rodwell Ferguson, accompanied by Technical Director of Plant Health for the Belize Agricultural Health Authority Francisco Gutierrez, and OIRSA Representative Fermin Blanco met with Guatemalan counterparts from the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock.
Discussions included Belizean products passing through Guatemala in transit to El Salvador, in connection with a partial scope agreement that has been signed between Belize and El Salvador.
This include the transportation of containers of agricultural goods and products to El Salvador through Guatemala.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, a MoU is scheduled to be signed next month between the Ministry of Agriculture of Belize and the Government of El Salvador through its Ambassador in Belize with regard to the products that will be destined to El Salvador.
The meeting prepared the way for the eventual transit of goods through Guatemala.
The discussions follow intense lobbying through the Ministry of Agriculture for additional markets abroad for Belizean products.
“El Salvador is one of our neighbouring countries that imports much of their food products and discussions on markets for Belizean food products with them have been very productive so far,” the Ministry said.
