By Horace Palacio: Belize is taking the global health stage this week as Minister of Health and Wellness, Kevin Bernard, leads the country’s delegation at the 78th World Health Assembly (WHA) in Geneva, Switzerland.
Joined by Dr. Andrei Chell, Director of Policy, Planning and Research, and Dr. Francis Morey, Deputy Director of Hospital Services and Allied Health, Minister Bernard is representing Belize in high-level discussions with health leaders from across the world. The assembly is focused on strengthening pandemic preparedness, promoting equity in healthcare, and reinforcing international health regulations.
The Belize delegation has contributed to key conversations on sustainable health financing, particularly for small and vulnerable states like Belize. They’ve also underscored the importance of building resilient health systems and ensuring equity-based approaches in emergency responses.
Minister Bernard and his team are expected to hold bilateral meetings with health partners and continue to advocate for Belize’s healthcare priorities on the global stage.
