By Zoila Palma: On July 21, 2026, Minister of Agriculture and Stann Creek West Area Representative Rodwell Ferguson visited the Placencia Peninsula to assess the ongoing beach erosion affecting residents, businesses, properties and communities in the area.
During the visit, Ferguson toured the peninsula and met with residents, stakeholders and elected leaders from Placencia and Seine Bight to gain a first-hand understanding of the situation.
The chairpersons of the Placencia Village Council and Seine Bight Village Council have committed to preparing detailed requests for government assistance.
Minister Ferguson said he is scheduled to meet with the Prime Minister and will present the requests for consideration as efforts continue to address the urgent erosion concerns.
Ferguson also committed to inviting Prime Minister John Briceno to visit the peninsula, observe the erosion firsthand and meet with residents of both communities.
