By Zoila Palma: Acting Minister of Home Affairs Julius Espat is on a familiarization tour of the Ministry and on Friday, he met with commanders of the Eastern Division in Belize City.
Minister Espat visited the Raccoon Street police station and viewed first hand the condition of the roof.
“I just came from the roof, I saw it personally right now. It’s in deplorable condition, it has to be done. The Chief Engineer has sent engineers already to do an analysis. So I will now ask for that report,” Espat said.
Minister Espat says that he will do everything in his power for the completion of roof repairs.
In addition, Minister Espat said that most of the complains brought forward was about resources.
“We cannot ask the police to assist us in solving crime if we do not give them the necessary resources for them to do it. We cannot expect the police to be nice to people when the environment in which they are working is horrible. It’s basic human nature so we have to be able to, if we are asking them to do the work and do it properly and asking them to be disciplines then we have to do our part, that’s how I see it. So I will do everything in my power within the timeframe that I am given to try to facilitate the resources that they need to be able to get the work done,” Espat said.
