By Breaking Belize News Staff: Fifty-three-year-old Ralph Sherlock Martinez Sr., also known as “Mini Man,” has been remanded to the Belize Central Prison after being arraigned on a charge of murder in connection with a fatal stabbing in Belize City earlier this week.

Martinez Sr., an unemployed resident of Lakeview Street, appeared unrepresented on Wednesday morning before the Belize City Magistrate’s Court, where he was read a single charge for the murder of 56-year-old Mark Longsworth.

Police allege that Longsworth was fatally stabbed during an incident that occurred around 12:30 a.m. on Monday, May 11, 2026, at the corner of Ebony and Mopan Streets in Belize City. Longsworth was reportedly transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital suffering from apparent stab wounds, but later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 1:00 a.m. At the time, he had not yet been identified and was initially listed as a John Doe.

Investigators from CIB Precinct 1 later processed the crime scene, where blood swabs were collected by Scenes of Crime personnel.

Police say footage obtained from the Fusion Center played a key role in the investigation. According to authorities, surveillance footage showed a man wearing light-colored pants and a white shirt leaving a home on Lakeview Street at approximately 12:29 a.m. and walking across beams over a canal toward Vernon Street. Minutes later, the same individual was reportedly seen returning to the area after jumping a fence near Sittee and Vernon Streets.

Officers subsequently conducted checks at the Lakeview Street residence, where Martinez Sr. was reportedly seen wearing clothing matching the suspect description. Although no incriminating items were found during a search of the home, Martinez Sr. was detained and escorted to the Raccoon Street Police Station.

Later that same morning, the deceased was formally identified by his sister as Mark Longsworth, a labourer of a Police Street address.

Police say a witness later identified Martinez Sr. as the person responsible for stabbing Longsworth. During an interview conducted on Tuesday, Martinez Sr. reportedly denied leaving his residence at the time of the incident and claimed he had been home asleep.

Due to the nature of the offense, no plea was taken and bail was denied. Martinez Sr. was remanded to the Belize Central Prison until July 10, 2026.
