By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 28-year-old car dealer from the Mile 8 Community on the George Price Highway is behind bars after he was arraigned on multiple charges on Thursday, including kidnapping and assaulting his wife, a primary school teacher, during a domestic dispute earlier this week.

Anfernee Conorquie of Sunrise Park in the Mile 8 community on the George Price Highway appeared unrepresented before Magistrate Ludlow Black in Belize City Magistrate’s Court where he was read two charges—kidnapping and common assault—in relation to an incident that occurred on Monday, June 30, 2025. He pleaded not guilty to the assault charge, but no plea was taken for the kidnapping, which is an indictable matter.

Due to the serious nature of the kidnapping allegation, bail was denied, and Conorquie was remanded to the Belize Central Prison. Magistrate Black informed him that while the lower court cannot grant bail at this stage, he is at liberty to seek bail through the High Court.

According to police reports and statements given by the victim, Conorquie’s wife had previously obtained a protection order against him on June 20. Despite this, she alleges that on June 30, while visiting the property they formerly shared, Conorquie confronted her, forcibly took her dog, assaulted her, and ultimately forced her into her own vehicle before speeding off.

During the ordeal, she attempted to alert police by honking the horn when she spotted a mobile unit, but Conorquie allegedly prevented her from escaping. The victim stated that he drove erratically through various routes, including the John Smith Road, Ladyville, Boom Road, and the Hattieville roundabout, before eventually returning to Mile 8.

She claimed Conorquie only released her after stopping at a gas station, where he handed over her vehicle keys and phone before leaving in another vehicle with friends.

Following his arraignment at the Magistrate’s Court, Conorquie was escorted to the Belize Family Court, where he was charged with breach of a protection order. He pleaded not guilty to that charge, and the case was adjourned until August 26, 2025.

This is not Conorquie’s first brush with law enforcement involving domestic issues. Monday’s incident reportedly came just one day after police were seeking him in connection with another alleged altercation.

He remains on remand at the Belize Central Prison pending trial.
