The Belize National Library Service and Information System, in partnership with UNESCO, will celebrate Media and Information Literacy Week by hosting Belizean Food Facts or Fiction at the Port Loyola Library on Central American Blvd. on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at 10:00 a.m.
Belizean youth who participated in the Port Loyola Library’s Summer Cooking Program will display their cooking skills. Attendees, including their parents and community members, will discuss Belizean recipes and learn about Artificial Intelligence (AI) in a fun way- through their bellies.
Global Media and Information Literacy Week is an annual event observed by UNESCO from October 24 to 31 to raise awareness and celebrate the progress toward achieving Media and Information Literacy for all. https://www.unesco.org/en/weeks/media-information-literacy
According to UNESCO, “media and information literacy encompasses various competencies that enable individuals and groups to navigate today’s information and communications environment. [It] enables the purposeful and creative use of digital technology and empowers all users through enhancing their knowledge of their online and digital rights, as well of the ethical issues surrounding access to and use of information.”
