By Zoila Palma: Mayor Earl Trapp of the San Ignacio and Santa Elena Town Council told Breaking Belize News’ Zoila Palma that the council is working closely with the police to address concerns about rising crime in the twin towns.
Mayor Trapp said he met last Monday with Officer Commanding of the San Ignacio Police Formation, Cesar Franco, to discuss strategies aimed at improving public safety.
According to the mayor, the discussions focused on increasing police visibility through more frequent patrols and better coordination between the council and the police.
He said the town council has committed to sharing its resources to help officers expand patrols, particularly in areas that require additional attention.
Mayor Trapp said plans include increased police checkpoints, as well as the use of town council traffic wardens to support law enforcement efforts.
He added that the council has also made vehicles available to assist police patrols in back roads and other vulnerable areas within the twin towns.
The mayor also appealed to residents to play an active role in crime prevention by cooperating with the police.
He urged community members and business owners to share surveillance footage and report any information that could assist investigations, stressing that public cooperation is critical to maintaining safety in San Ignacio and Santa Elena.
