By Aaron Humes: The beginning of July sees the eyes of seafood lovers, particularly lobster lovers turn to Caye Caulker, Placencia, and San Pedro Town for the annual Lobsterfest festivities.
Those occur over the next two weekends after a Hurricane Beryl-related delay, but could the Old Capital see one soon? After all, much of that catch is transported to the major fishing cooperatives National and Northern on North Front Street for processing and sale abroad.
On Wednesday, Bernard Wagner, Mayor of Belize City, signaled his support, although he noted that it was too early to talk about next year: “It’s too early but it’s something that we are excited for and would support. Lobster is a food that Belizeans crave so why not have a Lobster Fest as well in the city and so we have met several people yesterday who were interested in leading that and we would support it.”
Las Islas Bonita and Cariñosa start the party this weekend, with Placencia to follow from July 19-21.
