By Breaking Belize News Staff: The United Democratic Party (UDP) is experiencing heightened internal conflict, marked by a call for the removal of Patrick Faber.
The Collet area representative has openly criticized party leader Moses “Shyne” Barrow.
Faber’s Facebook post denounced Barrow as a “dictator” and demanded his removal.
On Friday, Mayor of San Ignacio and Santa Elena Earl Trapp urged UDP Chairman Michael Peyrefitte to expel Faber.
Trapp’s letter to the UDP Chairman condemned Faber’s comments as damaging to the party’s reputation and in violation of the UDP’s constitution and a National Party Council (NPC) resolution against actions detrimental to the party.
“It is disheartening to see Party members such as Patrick Faber repeatedly engage in destructive behavior that erodes public trust in the UDP and undermines our chances to win the next General Elections…Patrick Faber must be expelled…in order for the UDP to rid itself of the internal elements with ulterior motives and to finish destroying our great party that are already in shambles…We must send a clear message to all Party Officials that destructive behavior will not be tolerated,” Trapp said.
That letter was leaked to the media and Trapp said that he didn’t intend to discredit Faber but to help the party regain unity and improve its chances in upcoming general elections.
