By Zoila Palma: This week, the Belize Embassy in Taiwan welcomed Mayor Ladrick Sheppard and Councilor Allen Yu of Orange Walk Town Council to Taiwan.
This visit was a result of the establishment of Sister City relationship that the Embassy of Belize assisted to facilitate in May 2024 between Taoyuan City Council and Orange Walk Town Council.
Taoyuan City Mayor, Dr. Chang San-Cheng, visited Orange Walk Town in September of 2024. During his visit, he invited Mayor Sheppard to visit Taiwan to attend the 2025 Taiwan Lantern Festival in Taoyuan. Mayor Sheppard accepted and then reciprocated a visit to Taoyuan.
During the program recently, Mayor Sheppard visited the 2025 Taiwan Lantern Festival in Taoyuan, where Belize has a lantern on display.
Mayor Sheppard also visited several local institutions and cultural spots, such as Taoyuan Children’s Art Center, Coast and Resource Circulation Construction Office, and Indigenous Cultural Center.
