By Breaking Belize News Staff: A tragic family dispute that ended in bloodshed has now led to a guilty plea. On Monday, Matyas Carlos Bo pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the stabbing death of his brother, John Bo, during a drunken altercation in Bella Vista Village, Toledo District.
The incident occurred on September 25, 2024, when the two brothers, along with friends, were drinking Rebel Rum. An argument broke out between them, escalating into a physical fight. Matyas pulled a pocket knife and stabbed his brother in the chest. Despite attempts by a friend to break up the fight, John collapsed moments later, bleeding from the wound.
Matyas was later found at his mother’s house and detained by police. In his statement, he admitted to being intoxicated and said he couldn’t fully recall the details but accepted responsibility, saying, “If dah me stab my bredda… then I really fi face the consequences.”
A post-mortem confirmed that John Bo died from acute pericardial tamponade caused by a single stab wound to the chest.
Justice Antoinette Moore has deferred sentencing to August 5, 2025, when mitigation pleas will be heard.
