Massive fire destroys 13 homes in San Pedro Columbia

By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): A massive fire swept through San Pedro Columbia on Tuesday afternoon, destroying at least 13 homes and leaving several families displaced.

Reports indicate that the fire started around 2:30 p.m. and spread rapidly through the village, fueled by dry conditions and strong winds. Many of the affected homes were thatch structures, which allowed the flames to move quickly from one building to another.

Residents made urgent calls for help as they attempted to contain the blaze, using buckets of water in an effort to slow its spread. One resident, Nayomi Lara, described the situation as overwhelming, noting that the fire moved from house to house and quickly grew out of control.

Firefighters were delayed in reaching the area, and villagers initially relied on community efforts to battle the flames.

The fire was eventually brought under control after assistance arrived, including support from the Ya’axché Conservation Trust.

Officials are expected to provide more details as assessments of the damage continue.
