In a social media post after Democrats took control of the US Senate, the Kentucky Republican wrote that the outcome was about holding his party accountable.
He listed three things he said Republicans needed to do: put Americans first, not start another war, and prosecute sex traffickers.
The post quickly drew more than 10,000 likes, 4,300 comments and 10,000 shares. One commenter suggested Massie should run on a presidential ticket with Democrat James Talarico, who won the Texas Senate seat on Tuesday, calling them different parties but common sense.
Massie has built a reputation as one of the most independent voices in the Republican Party. He has opposed US involvement in foreign wars and pushed for the release of the Jeffrey Epstein files, often putting him at odds with President Donald Trump.
His message has a strong following beyond the US, including among many Belizeans who follow American politics closely on social media and see in him a politician willing to challenge his own party.
