By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Police are investigating an armed altercation that left a woman injured in San Jose Village, Orange Walk District, on Wednesday, January 1st, 2026.
According to police reports, officers responded to information that a male person was involved in an altercation and was in possession of a firearm. Upon arrival, police spoke with a 49-year-old Belizean woman of San Jose Village, who reported that she had been socializing with family members in her yard when she decided to go inside her house.
The woman told police that upon entering, she observed two male persons dressed in dark-colored clothing and wearing face masks inside her home. She further reported seeing one of the men holding a firearm, which she believed belonged to her son.
The woman attempted to retrieve the firearm, resulting in a struggle with the two male persons. During the altercation, she was pushed to the ground, causing pain and injuries to her neck, back, right foot, and left knee.
Police conducted further checks inside the house and observed that it had been ransacked. The woman was issued a medico-legal form and later transported to the hospital for treatment. Police advised that a formal report would be made.
The scene was processed by Scenes of Crime personnel, and investigations are ongoing.
