By Breaking Belize News Staff: On September 5, 2025, an employee of the San Ignacio and Santa Elena Town Council was reportedly shot while chopping grass in Santa Cruz area of Santa Elena.
Dominique Robateau, 20, was reportedly warned not to be in the area before gunmen opened fire around 11:00 a.m.
Mayor Earl Trapp explained that the council had been asked to clear the bushy alley, which residents said was blocking access for utilities.
While employees were working, a man reportedly confronted them, before shots were fired from behind a zinc fence.
Robateau was hit, while another bullet grazed the pants of a co-worker.
Unofficial reports suggest the overgrown spot may have been used as a stash area.
Police are investigating the incident
