By Breaking Belize News Staff: Twenty-seven-year-old Marvin Cal of Belize City appeared late Thursday morning before Justice Derick Sylvester in the High Court, where he was indicted on a charge of manslaughter by negligence stemming from a fatal traffic incident.
Cal, who is currently out on bail, is accused of causing the death of Oscar Rhodas during an incident that occurred on June 12, 2023, between Miles 2 and 3 on the Hattieville/Boom Road. Allegations are that Cal, while driving a Ford Ranger pickup truck, acted carelessly and knocked down Rhodas, resulting in his death.
Represented by attorney Hurl Hamilton, Cal pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him. The Crown is represented by Director of Public Prosecutions Crown Counsel Maria Nembhard-Santana.
Justice Sylvester adjourned the matter for a Case Management Conference (CMC), which is scheduled for next week Thursday, February 5, 2026, at 8:30 a.m.
