By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Belize City man charged in connection with an attempted murder case is now out on bail after spending nearly eight months on remand at the Belize Central Prison.

Mark Jackson, a labourer of Fabers Road Extension, was granted bail in the sum of $8,000 plus two sureties of $4,000 each by the Chief Magistrate in Court #1. Although bail was approved more than a week earlier, Jackson was only able to meet the conditions on Monday, March 23, 2026.

Jackson was initially arraigned on July 29, 2025, two days after a shooting incident that left 24-year-old construction worker Wayne Welch injured. He faces charges of attempted murder, use of deadly means of harm, and wounding.

The incident occurred on Sunday, July 27, 2025, along Central American Boulevard. Police responded to reports of a shooting and later visited the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where Welch was receiving treatment for gunshot injuries.

According to police reports, Welch stated that he was standing in front of Tammy’s Wholesale Store when a black motorcycle approached. The driver, identified as a man known as “Blue,” stopped, and another male passenger reportedly dismounted and shot him. Welch reported that a struggle ensued before both men fled the scene on the motorcycle toward Fabers Road.

Investigators later recovered a .38 revolver believed to have been used in the shooting, which was sent for forensic analysis.

As part of his bail conditions, Jackson is required to report weekly to a police station, avoid any contact with the virtual complainant and prosecution witnesses, and remain at least 100 yards away from Welch and his family.

Jackson is due back in court in May 2026.

A second suspect, 21-year-old Elisha Buller of Belize City, was charged several months after the incident and remains before the court in connection with the same matter.
