By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 23-year-old Belize City man is behind bars after being charged in connection with a weekend motorcycle drive-by shooting that left one man hospitalized.
Mark Jackson appeared unrepresented before Magistrate Ludlow Black in Court #3 on Tuesday morning. He was read three indictable charges: attempted murder, use of deadly means of harm, and grievous harm, in relation to the shooting of 24-year-old Wayne Welch.
The incident occurred around 5:00 a.m. on Sunday, July 27, 2025, in front of Tammy’s Wholesale Store on Central American Boulevard. According to police, Welch told investigators he was standing outside the store when a black motorcycle pulled up and a passenger dismounted and opened fire on him. A brief struggle followed before the assailants fled toward Fabers Road.
Welch was transported to the KHMH with apparent gunshot injuries.
Police say they have recovered a .38 revolver believed to have been used in the shooting. The firearm, marked “Jaguar,” has been sent for forensic analysis.
Due to the nature of the offenses, no plea was taken from Jackson, and bail was denied. He has been remanded to the Belize Central Prison until his next court appearance on October 30, 2025.
