By Breaking Belize News Staff: Rhodane Neal, 22, is facing two drug convictions after pleading guilty to possession of 199 grams and 30 grams of marijuana, reportedly to spare his elderly landlady from being detained and criminally charged.
Appearing unrepresented in Court #4 on Monday morning, Neal admitted guilt to both charges. He was found with the larger amount of cannabis in a purple school bag inside his room, while 30 grams were found in his pocket. Neal told the court the bulk of the marijuana wasn’t his, but belonged to a roommate who wasn’t home during the police raid on June 19.
Neal claimed that when officers couldn’t locate a 9mm gun they allegedly demanded, they threatened to charge him for everything illegal in the house. Not wanting his landlady caught in the middle, Neal said he accepted responsibility for all the drugs.
The Magistrate acknowledged Neal’s four days in detention and the circumstances of the case. Instead of imposing the mandatory $10,000 fine or three-year prison term, the court fined Neal $300 plus $5 for the 199 grams, due by July 31, 2025, or two months in default. For the 30 grams, he was fined an additional $150 plus $5, due by August 22, 2025, or one month in default.
