Man shot multiple times while riding bicycle

By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Police are investigating a deadly drive-by shooting that claimed the life of a 26-year-old man on Sunday evening in Ladyville.

According to police, around 5:32 p.m. on Sunday, January 25, 2026, reports were received of shots being fired on Joe Lewis Street. Officers from the Ladyville Criminal Investigations Branch and uniform personnel responded and found the motionless body of a male lying on the roadside with multiple gunshot injuries.

The victim was identified as Shackkeem Ferguson, a Belizean laborer and resident of Joe Lewis Street.

Initial investigations revealed that Ferguson had left his home shortly after 4:00 p.m. on a bicycle. Around 5:30 p.m., while heading back home along Joe Lewis Road, occupants of an SUV reportedly opened fire on him. Witnesses reported seeing two SUVs fleeing the area toward Perez Road immediately after the shooting.

Ferguson was transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 8:26 p.m.

Scene of Crime technicians processed the area, recovering expended shells and collecting blood samples. Surveillance footage from a nearby residence was also reviewed as part of the investigation.
