By Breaking Belize News Staff: A family in Lords Bank Village is mourning the loss of a loved one following a violent shooting that occurred while they slept.
Police say that around 1:41 a.m., officers were dispatched to a residence at the BDF housing site after receiving reports of gunshots. At the location, they found the body of Phillip Nicholas, 57, lying motionless near the side door of the house with a fatal gunshot injury.
Nicholas’ wife told investigators that she, her husband, and their four-year-old grandson were sleeping on a sponge on the floor when two masked men approached the home. She reported that the intruders fired several shots into the house without warning.
One of the bullets struck Nicholas in the head, fatally wounding him. The gunmen reportedly fled immediately after the shooting.
Crime scene investigators collected shell casings from the area, but police say there are currently no persons of interest. The investigation remains ongoing.
