Man remanded to prison for allegedly stealing $20 roll of coins from 24/7 gas station

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Twenty-nine-year-old Frank Young Jr. is back behind bars after outstanding court fines prevented him from processing bail following his arraignment on a burglary charge involving a Ladyville convenience store.

Young Jr., a laborer of Jackson’s Avenue, Ladyville, appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Monday, where he was read a single charge of burglary. He pleaded not guilty to allegations that on Monday, January 12, 2026, he entered the 24/7 Gas Station Convenience Store at Mile 10½ on the Philip Goldson Highway as a trespasser and stole $20.00, the property of the business.

There was no objection to bail; however, the prosecution requested conditions. The court granted bail in the sum of $3,000 with one surety of the same amount, with conditions that Young Jr. not interfere with the virtual complainant or any prosecution witnesses and that he remain 100 yards away from the virtual complainant. His next court date is set for February 20, 2026.

Before bail could be processed, Young Jr. was ordered to pay outstanding fines from a previous matter. He was unable to do so at the time and was therefore remanded to the Belize Central Prison. Although the fines were later paid, Young Jr. had already been escorted back to prison. Court officials indicated that a warrant would be issued to facilitate his removal once bail processing is completed.

Police reports indicate that on January 12, a pump attendant of Old Well Road, Ladyville, reported that while on duty at the 24/7 Gas Station between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., he left two men—identified as Frank Young and another male known as “Dido”—unattended while serving customers.

Later that morning, during a cash reconciliation, the station’s manager discovered that two paper rolls of coins were missing. Surveillance footage allegedly showed Young reaching through a square opening beneath a glass window and removing the rolls, handing one to the other man and placing the second in his pocket. Both Garcia and Jones positively identified Young in the footage.

Police launched an investigation, and Young Jr. was detained and charged with burglary on Saturday, January 17, 2026.
