By Breaking Belize News Staff: Mark Smith, 32, is behind bars, accused of burglarizing his common-law wife’s home. Smith, a resident of North Front Street Guest House, appeared unrepresented in Court #7 on Monday, where he faced a single charge of burglary.
The alleged incident occurred on November 2, 2024, when Smith reportedly entered the home on Pickstock Apartment Street and stole a collection of important documents, including birth certificates, social security cards, passports, and a land certificate, among other items. Smith pleaded not guilty, claiming his wife handed him the envelope containing the documents through a window.
The magistrate denied Smith bail due to his previous pending burglary charge, on which he was prohibited from committing any similar offenses. As a result, the court revoked his bail on the earlier case and remanded him to custody until December 30, 2024, when he will return to Court #5. His other burglary case is scheduled for December 13, 2024, in Court #6.
