Man out on $600 bail after allegedly hitting ex-wife with baseball bat

By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Belize City man is out on $600 bail after he allegedly hit his wife with a baseball bat during a domestic dispute.

Saul Peter Cardona appeared in court unrepresented on Thursday and initially pleaded guilty to a charge of harm. He did not accept the facts as presented in court, however, and an unequivocal not guilty plea was entered on his behalf. He was granted bail in the sum of $600.

His ex-wife reported to police that on February 20, he went to drop off the children to her home but they got into an argument and he hit her across the eyes with a baseball bat. A doctor classified her injuries as harm. Cardona’s version of events, however, claim that when he went to drop off the children, his ex-wife attacked him with a knife.
