By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Second Class Clerk with the Ministry of Education has been accused of assaulting a woman and damaging her property during a reported domestic dispute.
The accused, 48-year-old Esmond Austin, appeared before Magistrate Mannon Dennison in Court #6 this week. He was read two criminal charges — one count of common assault and one count of damage to property for a $350 wooden door belonging to the complainant.
The alleged incident occurred on Saturday, November 1, 2025, in Lords Bank Village. Austin, who appeared unrepresented, pleaded not guilty to both charges.
The prosecutor did not object to bail but requested certain conditions, noting the matter stemmed from a domestic situation. Magistrate Dennison granted bail in the sum of $2,000 plus one surety of the same amount, on conditions that Austin must stay 100 yards away from the virtual complainant, not interfere with her, her family, or any prosecution witnesses.
Austin told the court that he and the complainant do not live together. He was able to meet bail the same afternoon. The case has been adjourned to December 30, 2025.
