By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Belize City man has been fined $6,500 after pleading guilty to possession of 1.5 pounds of marijuana with intent to supply, while his co-accused was freed after charges against her were withdrawn.
Fifty-one-year-old stevedore and barber, Ennert Kenroy Crawford, appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court alongside 39-year-old Kimberly Kamesha St. Clare, a cook of Mahogany Street. Both were initially charged with possession of controlled drugs with intent to supply to another person for the purpose of drug trafficking.
Crawford pleaded guilty to the offense, while St. Clare pleaded not guilty. Following Crawford’s admission, the prosecution withdrew the charge against St. Clare, and she was free to go.
In court, Senior Magistrate Mannon Dennison explained that although Crawford had a previous drug conviction dating back to 2007, he would be treated as a first-time offender due to the length of time since that conviction. Crawford also benefited from a one-third discount for his early guilty plea.
Despite this, the court emphasized the seriousness of the offense. Instead of the minimum mandatory fine of $10,000 or up to three years’ imprisonment, Crawford was handed a non-custodial sentence of a $6,500 fine plus $5 in court costs. He must pay the fine by March 31, 2026, or serve one year in prison in default.
According to police, the incident occurred on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, around 9:15 p.m., when officers from the Gang Intelligence and Investigative Unit conducted a search at a residence on Mahogany Street. During the search, police discovered a blue handbag containing two plastic bags and a parcel with suspected cannabis in the laundry room.
Both occupants were detained and taken to the Queen Street Police Station. Police reported that while in custody, Crawford admitted ownership of the drugs, reportedly stating, “Dah feh me. I wah own up to it.”
The marijuana amounted to approximately 1.5 pounds, and police alleged it was intended for distribution.
