By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 35-year-old Santana Village resident has been fined after pleading guilty to damaging a mannequin and dress belonging to a Belize City businesswoman.
Albert Reid, an unemployed Belizean, appeared unrepresented before the Belize City Magistrate’s Court, where he admitted to the offense of damage to property. The court ordered Reid to pay a fine of $500 plus $5 in court costs by March 31, 2026. In default of payment, he will serve three months’ imprisonment.
Reid was accused of stabbing a mannequin valued at $200 that was dressed in a green $65 dress, causing a large tear. The damaged items are the property of a 46-year-old businesswoman who owns a store located on Cemetery Road.
According to the facts, the store owner reported to police that on Saturday, January 10, 2026, between 7:00 and 8:00 p.m., she observed a slim-built, brown-skinned man—known to frequent the area and harass customers—standing outside her store with a sharp object. She said the man proceeded to stab the mannequin positioned in front of the business, damaging both the mannequin and the dress it was wearing.
Police later identified the culprit as Reid. He was detained on Monday, January 12, 2026, and subsequently charged. At his arraignment later that evening, Reid wasted no time in pleading guilty, leading to the fine imposed by the court.
