Man chopped in face following heated dispute at village gas station

By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Police are investigating an aggravated assault in San Lazaro Village, Orange Walk District, that left a 20-year-old man hospitalized with a severe machete wound to the face.

The incident occurred around 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 9, after an argument broke out between two men near the San Lazaro gas station. According to police reports, Elmer Pott, a laborer of Corozal Town, got into a verbal dispute with Shanir Carrillo, 24, of San Lazaro Village.

During the confrontation, Pott reportedly brandished a knife and pointed it toward Carrillo. Another man who was passing by intervened and separated the two, escorting Pott away from the area.

However, shortly after, when Pott was passing in front of Carrillo’s residence, Carrillo armed himself with a machete and attacked Pott, inflicting a large wound on the left side of his face.

Police responded quickly and found Pott bleeding profusely inside a nearby residence. He was rushed to the Northern Regional Hospital for emergency treatment, where he remains in a stable condition.

Scenes of Crime officers photographed and processed the area, and statements were recorded. Carrillo has been detained by police pending charges of aggravated assault.
