By Breaking Belize News Staff: Garth Sheffield Longsworth, 42, was arraigned in Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Thursday on two counts of sexual assault involving a 15-year-old student. Longsworth was granted bail of $5,000 plus one surety of the same amount.

Represented by Attorney Paulette Elrington, Longsworth initially pleaded not guilty to the charges before Senior Magistrate in Court #2. However, Attorney Elrington requested a sentencing indication, stating her client was considering changing his plea. The magistrate adjourned the sentencing indication hearing until Thursday, February 27, 2025.

According to police reports, on Thursday, February 12, 2025, the 15-year-old student, accompanied by her mother, reported to the Ladyville Police Station that Longsworth had entered her home and, without her consent, squeezed her buttocks and kissed her cheek.

This arraignment follows the recent sentencing of Jose Luis Ramos, a Honduran national, who received a five-month prison sentence for sexually assaulting an 8-year-old girl.
