By Aaron Humes: Earlier this week in Magistrate’s Court in Belize City, Devon McKenzie was arraigned under the Cyber-crime Act of 2020 with an incident of alleged cyberbullying.
McKenzie’s charge is one count of used a Computer System to Transmit Computer Data that threatens the other person with violence, contrary to section 15 (1) (b) of the Cybercrime Act Chapter 106:01 of the Substantive Laws of Belize (Revised Edition) 2020.
McKenzie is specifically accused of sending a voice recording to a woman with whom he had a dispute, which allegedly used insulting and threatening language.
A person who commits an offence under this section is liable on summary conviction to a fine of ten thousand dollars and to term of imprisonment for five years; or conviction on indictment to a fine of fifteen thousand dollars and to a term of imprisonment for ten years
McKenzie returns to court on January 24, 2025.
