By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 22-year-old Belize City man is on remand at the Belize Central Prison after his arraignment for damage to property took an unexpected turn due to his unusual behavior in court.

Jordan Ferguson, accused of damaging property in an incident reported by his father, appeared unrepresented before Magistrate Mannon Dennison in Court #6 on Thursday. While Ferguson was able to provide the court with his name, age, and address, his demeanor quickly raised concerns about his state of mind.

Within moments, Ferguson began making disjointed statements, telling the court, “I need feh go home. I could get the money,” and later adding, “Meh pah deh home,” when asked about his father. At one point, he admitted to breaking glass himself, but his fragmented sentences made little sense.

Magistrate Dennison, noting Ferguson’s erratic responses and apparent lack of understanding of the proceedings, refrained from reading the charge or taking a plea. Instead, he gently explained to the accused that a psychiatric evaluation would be required before the case could move forward.

Ferguson, who told the court he works as a fisherman and resides near Conch Shell Bay, protested the remand, stating, “But I just got an injection yesterday.”

He has been ordered to remain at the Belize Central Prison for 30 days pending the results of a psychiatric report. Ferguson is scheduled to return to court at the end of October 2025.
